Since starting a renovation in 2010, the school has built a new science wing, has implemented new technology in every classroom, has installed turf, and is currently working towards rebuilding its three gyms.

Parkway South High School opened in 1976, the bicentennial of the United States Declaration of Independence. For this reason, the school mascot is the patriot and the colors are red, white, and blue. The school was supposed to be completed in 1974, and the mascot would have been the rebel; the colors were going to be orange, blue, and black. However, construction was delayed, and the colors and mascot were changed to a bicentennial theme.^{[citation needed]}

Activities[edit]

For the 2013–2014 school year, the school offered 28 activities approved by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA): baseball, boys' and girls' basketball, sideline/competition cheerleading, boys' and girls' cross country, dance team, field hockey, 11-man football, boys' and girls' golf, girls' lacrosse, music activities, scholar bowl, boys' and girls' soccer, softball, speech and debate, boys' and girls' swimming and diving, boys' and girls' tennis, boys' and girls' track and field, boys' and girls' volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.^[3] In addition to its current activities, Parkway South students have won several state championships, including:

• Cheerleading: 2001, 2018
• Boys' golf: 2001
• Girls' softball: 1989, 1991, 1995
• Boys' swimming and diving: 1999, 2000, 2001
• Boys' soccer: 2007

Parkway South also has had one individual girls' cross country state champion, three individual boys' track and field state champions, two individual girls' track and field state champions, three relay girls' track and field state champions, and three individual wrestling state champions.^[4]

Activities include the 'Spirit of '76' Marching Band, performing arts, clubs, and school publications.^{[citation needed]}

Rep Porter – Lead Instructor

Rep Porter is a three-time WSOP Bracelet winner with over $3 million in tournament winnings. Most recently, he won the $1500 buy-in Razz event in 2016. Rep won his first bracelet in 2008 in Six-Handed No Limit Hold’em and his second bracelet in 2011 in Razz. He also finished 12th in the 2013 Main Event, taking home $573,204. Rep is a graduate of the University of Washington and worked as an equity options trader. Rep has played poker professionally for 17 years.

Ian Johns won two bracelets in 2016. One was the $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship and the other was the $1500 buy-in HORSE event. Previously, Ian won a Limit Hold’em bracelet in 2004 and has had several other limit hold’em final tables.

Ian has been a professional poker player specializing in limit hold’em since 2004. He has played limit hold’em almost exclusively for the last decade and he brings a unique outlook to the game, both as a player and as an instructor.

Rick is a gifted communicator and teacher, actively involved in poker education for the past decade, teaching poker to thousands of students around the world. A former Police Officer, Rick is an adventure junkie, a private pilot, a skydiver with hundreds of jumps, and a certified SCUBA diver. He currently resides in Washington State.
