Josh Hart secured his first live poker tournament title and a career-best cash of £57,484 when he emerged victorious in the 2014 PokerStars UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event. Hart outlasted a star-studded field of 402 players to become the latest UKIPT champion.

Hart was the man who sent the early favourite, Ludovic Geilich, to the rail in eighth place. On the 26th hand of the final table, Geilich looked down at and three-bet all-in for 317,000 after Hart had opened to 50,000. Hart called with the dominating and when the five community cards fell it was game over for Geilich.
Two hands later, Thomas Ward followed Geilich to the cashier’s desk after busting at the hands of Fintan Gavin. Blinds were now 15,000/30,000/4,000a and Gavin raised to 65,000 from early position, Ward jammed all-in from the cutoff and Gavin called.
It was for Gavin and the inferior for Ward. The board ran and like that, Ward was gone.
Hand 63 was the one that sent the Czech Republic’s Josef Snejberg to the sidelines. A min-raise to 80,000 from Snejberg was called by Hart in the big blind. A flop reading was checked by Hat, bet to the tune of 82,000 by Snejberg and check-raised to 230,000 by Hard. Snejberg then shipped his stack into the middle and Hart called.
Snejberg flipped over , but those bullets needed some help from the turn or river because Hart had flopped two pair with his . That help failed to arrive as the was followed by the , Snejberg’s aces were cracked and he became the sixth place finisher.
Twelve hands later and Germany’s Marc Radgen exited following a clash with David Hill. Radgen moved all-in for around 13 big blinds with and Hill re-shoved behind him with what turned out to be . By the river the board read and Radgen’s tournament came to an abrupt end.
Next to fall was the former UKIPT Edinburgh champion Gavin. Hart raised to 100,000 and almost instantly called when Gavin three-bet all-in for 378,000 in total. Gavin showed and was trailing the of Hart.
Hart extended his lead on the flop, stayed in front on the turn and the on the river was too little too late for Gavin and he busted in fourth place.
Three-handed play spanned 17 hands and ended with the exit of Hill. After limping on the button, Hill called a raise to 175,000 from Hart in the small blind, meaning it was eads-up to the flop. Hart continued with a 175,000 bet and then called when Hill raised to 375,000. The turn was the and both players tapped the table and checked.
Hart then led for 700,000 on the turn, Hill announced he was all-in and Hart called, turning over for a set of sixes, much stronger than the of Hill. After a quick count of the chips, it became apparent that Hill was the shorter stack of the two and his was eliminated.
Thanks in part to that last hand, Hart went into the heads-up battle with Ciaran Heaney with a 4,500,000 to 3,500,000 chip advantage, but that didn’t stop him from agreeing to a variance-reducing deal that left £5,000 for the eventual champion.
Heaney was quickest out of the blocks and quickly forged a 2:1 chip lead for himself, but Hart soared into a he lead when his prevailed against the of Heaney. From that point onwards, Hart dominated proceedings.
The final hand was the 168th of the final table and saw Heaney open to 225,000 and then call wen Hart set him all-in. Heaney held and Hart the .
Hart paired his three on the flop and when the turn and river fell and Heaney exited and Hart was left to revel in the glory associated with becoming a UKIPT champion.

Two teams looking to keep their playoff hopes alive clash when the New Orleans Pelicans visit the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday.
The Pelicans and Kings have a 28-36 record and they are four games behind the Grizzlies for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference. This is obviously a must-win spot for both teams.
A 6-22 start was tough to overcome but the play of Jrue Holiday, Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball have the Pelicans with a chance to make the playoffs. New Orleans has 18 games left, including two with Memphis. Two bench players have to improve considerably if the Pelicans want to win this game and keep competing.
Cold Bench
The second unit has been a strength for the Pelicans but it has struggled in the last seven games. Josh Hart and Nicolo Melli are the most important players off the bench and they have to step up their game considerably.
The New Orleans bench has scored a combined 22 points or fewer in five of their last seven games. That kind of production will not take them far. Hart and Melli have picked the worst time to go cold from beyond the arc.
Hart is shooting just 26.5 percent from 3-point range in his last 10 games. Melli is just 4-for-18 (22.2 percent) from distance in his last three games. He is making just 17.9 percent of his 3-point attempts in his last five games.
Why Hart and Melli Are So Important
The Pelicans have relied on Hart and Melli to get their bench going offensively. Josh Hart is an emotional leader. He provides timely 3-point shooting, rebounding and versatility on the defensive end of the court.

Last Friday’s game against the Heat exemplifies what he can do for the Pelicans. Hart had 19 points and 12 rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench. He was 6-for-12 from the field and 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. That’s exactly the kind of production they need from him on Wednesday.
